Target Account List (TAL)

A curated list of companies that match your ICP and are prioritized for outbound outreach.

What is a Target Account List?

A Target Account List is the foundation of any outbound campaign. It is a curated, prioritized list of companies that match your Ideal Customer Profile and have been evaluated for outreach readiness. Unlike a generic prospect database, a TAL is intentional and finite.

Building a TAL for B2B SaaS and Dev Agencies

Step 1: Define Your ICP

Before you build a list, you need to know exactly who you are looking for. Industry, size, tech stack, funding stage, geography.

Step 2: Source Companies

Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Crunchbase, G2, and industry directories to identify companies matching your criteria.

Step 3: Apply Intent Filters

Layer buying intent signals on top of your ICP criteria. A company that matches your ICP AND just raised funding is a higher priority than one that simply matches the profile.

Step 4: Prioritize by Tier

TierCriteriaPriority
Tier 1ICP match + active intent signalImmediate outreach
Tier 2ICP match + passive signalQueue for next cycle
Tier 3ICP match + no signalMonitor for signals

// TAL SIZING

recommended: 200-500 accounts per quarter

common_mistake: 5,000+ accounts with no prioritization

result: spray-and-pray disguised as "account-based"

My TAL Process

I build target account lists manually, not by exporting thousands of records from a database. Each account is individually verified against ICP criteria and checked for intent signals before entering the outreach queue. This is slower but produces dramatically better results.
