Targeting
Technographic Targeting
Identifying and prioritizing prospects based on the technology tools and platforms they currently use.
What is Technographic Targeting?
Technographic targeting uses a company's technology stack as a primary filter for outbound prospecting. Instead of targeting by industry or company size alone, you identify companies using specific tools, platforms, or infrastructure that indicate compatibility with your solution.
Why Technographics Matter for B2B SaaS & Dev Agencies
If you sell a developer tool, knowing a company uses React vs. Angular changes your entire positioning. If you sell a CRM integration, knowing they use HubSpot vs. Salesforce determines whether they are even a viable prospect.
| Signal | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Uses competitor product | Ready for a switch conversation |
| Uses complementary tool | Natural integration pitch |
| Recently adopted new tech | In buying/building mode |
| Outdated stack | May need modernization |
Technographic Sources
- LinkedIn job postings: Tech requirements reveal the stack
- BuiltWith / Wappalyzer: Website technology detection
- GitHub activity: Open-source contributions reveal tools
- Crunchbase: Technology tags and integrations listed
// TECHNOGRAPHIC FILTER EXAMPLE
target: companies using Salesforce + no outbound tool
signal: they have CRM but no outbound infrastructure
angle: "you have the data, I have the channel"
I use technographic data as a core layer in ICP building. I manually verify tech stacks through job postings, LinkedIn profiles, and company pages , not bulk scrapers that produce outdated data.
