Signal-Based Outbound

An outreach methodology that triggers messaging based on real-time buying signals rather than static lists.

What is Signal-Based Outbound?

Signal-based outbound is a methodology where outreach is triggered by observable events (hiring, funding, tech changes) rather than pulled from static contact databases. Instead of messaging everyone who matches a job title filter, you message people who are showing signs of active need.

The Problem with List-Based Outbound

Traditional outbound works like this: buy a list of 10,000 contacts, write a template, blast it out, hope for the best. The targeting is static. The timing is random. The personalization is superficial.

Signal-based outbound inverts this: monitor your ICP companies for buying signals, qualify the ones showing activity, craft relevant outreach tied to the signal.

Signal-Based Outbound in Practice

Here is what a signal-based workflow looks like:

  1. Monitor: Track ICP companies for hiring posts, funding rounds, technology changes
  2. Qualify: When a signal fires, manually verify the company still fits your ICP
  3. Research: Find the right decision-maker and understand their specific context
  4. Craft: Write outreach that references the signal naturally (not "I saw you raised a Series B")
  5. Deploy: Send via LinkedIn with manual follow-up sequences

// SIGNAL vs LIST COMPARISON

list_based: 10,000 contacts → 200 replies → 40 meetings → 8 qualified

signal_based: 500 contacts → 60 replies → 30 meetings → 22 qualified

The signal-based approach generates fewer total replies but dramatically more qualified pipeline. This is the methodology I deploy for every client.
