Metrics
Cost Per Qualified Lead (CPQL)
The total cost of generating one lead that meets your qualification criteria and is ready for sales engagement.
What is Cost Per Qualified Lead?
Cost Per Qualified Lead measures the total investment required to generate one lead that meets your specific qualification criteria. Unlike Cost Per Lead (CPL), CPQL only counts leads that have been verified as genuine potential buyers.
Formula
CPQL = Total Outbound Investment / Number of Qualified Leads Generated
CPQL by Channel (B2B SaaS & Dev Agency Averages)
| Channel | Average CPQL | Lead Quality |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | $200-$500 | Variable |
| Content marketing | $150-$350 | Warm but slow |
| Cold email | $100-$300 | Low qualification |
| LinkedIn volume-based | $150-$400 | Mixed |
| LinkedIn manual (SENT) | $250-$500 | High qualification |
Why CPQL Matters More Than CPL
A $50 CPL that produces 10% qualified leads costs $500 per qualified lead. A $250 CPQL that produces 80% qualified leads costs exactly $250. The cheap option is actually 2x more expensive when you measure what matters.
// CPQL REALITY CHECK
agency_a: "$50 per lead!" (5% qualification rate → $1,000 CPQL)
agency_b: "$300 per lead" (75% qualification rate → $400 CPQL)
question: which agency is actually cheaper?
answer: always calculate CPQL, never trust CPL alone
My CPQL Approach
I price on outcomes, not activity. My CPQL is transparent because every lead I deliver has been manually qualified against agreed-upon criteria. No inflated numbers. No "leads" that are actually just names on a list. Real people at real companies with real buying intent.
