Process
First-Touch Messaging
The initial message a prospect receives in an outbound sequence, designed to start a conversation , not close a deal.
What is First-Touch Messaging?
First-touch messaging is the art of crafting the opening message in an outbound sequence. It is the single most important message you will send because it determines whether the prospect engages or ignores your entire sequence.
First-Touch Messaging Principles
1. Lead with Relevance, Not Your Product
The first line should be about the prospect, not about you. Reference something specific: their content, their company's recent news, a hiring signal, or a shared connection.
2. Create Curiosity, Not Pressure
The goal is a reply, not a meeting. Ask a question. Share an observation. Provoke thought. Do not ask for 15 minutes of their time in the first message.
3. Keep It Short
LinkedIn messages over 300 characters see a 40% drop in reply rates. Say less. Mean more.
4. No Links in the First Message
Links trigger LinkedIn's spam filters and reduce visibility. Save them for follow-ups.
// FIRST-TOUCH FORMULA
line_1: specific reference to prospect (proves you researched)
line_2: observation or insight (shows you understand their world)
line_3: soft question (invites a reply, not a commitment)
total_length: under 300 characters
My First-Touch Methodology
Every first-touch message in a SENT campaign is crafted after individual prospect research. I never use templates for first touches. The message must reference something only that specific prospect would recognize , their content, a company milestone, or a role-specific challenge.
